Hunter

Handsome Hunter

About Hunter

Age: 7 1/2 years old

Breed: Lurcher

Sex: Neutered male

Hunter is an affectionate lad who loves to snooze. He is a real sofa surfer and loves to be found belly up. Hunter struggles with new doggy friends and becomes reactive when he sees them on his walks so he would love a more rural setting where he could really learn to relax and enjoy life. He loves his toys especially his stuffed teddies. Sadly Hunter has been here with us for 17 months looking for his new home.

Reason for Rehoming

Hunter arrived at the centre through no fault of his own. Sadly his families life was changing and Hunter was no longer getting the attention he needed.

Health

Hunter has a full clean bill of health but with him getting a little more senior Shh don't tell him that :) we have added in a daily joint supplement to his meals.

Training & Home Life

  • Housetrained: Yes - Lets you know he needs out.
  • Crate trained: No - Been free roam.
  • Left alone: Good - Gets left to free roam.
  • Lead walking: Gets strong and will lunge when sees dogs - walked on a harness lead and muzzle.
  • Off lead: Not suitable unless in a fully secure dog park.
  • Travelling: Travels well secured into boot of car.
  • Escaping: Would need a fully secure garden with 6ft fencing.

Behaviour & Socialising

  • People: Affectionate and playful.
  • Children: Best suited with teenagers due t his reactivity towards dogs while on walks.
  • Dogs: Must be muzzled but is getting better around other sighthounds although would not be able to be without his muzzle. Not keen on small dogs or excitable dogs especially fast moving spaniels etc.
  • Cats: Not suitable due to high prey drive.
  • Other: Hunter can become overstimulated at times especially when he gets excited with play and can sometimes become a little mouthy trying to pull your sleeve etc.

Sleeping Arrangements

Hunter is a lazy lump and very much likes his home comforts! He loves to be snuggled under a blanket close to you like a hot water bottle :)

Likes & Personality

  • Food!! Hunter loves his food
  • Although he does like a walk he much prefers running around his own secure garden where he feels safe and relaxed
  • Cuddles on the sofa
  • Zoomies!
  • Napping
  • More cuddles

Ideal Home for Hunter

  • A calm home with adults or older children
  • No other pets
  • A fully secure garden
  • Someone who would be happy especially in the beginning to have Hunter spend more time in the garden rather then walks as this is where he feels more secure and safe.

What the staff have to say
'Hunter loved his night in the staff flat. He was extremely interested with all the new smells and rooms he could explore which led to him getting the zoomies. He did eventually burn himself out and lay down for a rest. He loves being up close with you and loves his cuddles. He doesn’t bother you when you’re eating your food and tells you when he needs a toilet or wants something although he does raise his ears when he hears a packet rustling or opening. It’s really nice to see them out of the kennels and how different they are in a homely environment. Hunter would make a brilliant companion for someone'

If you are lucky enough to be popping off on some holidays in the next couple of weeks sadly this may not be the right time for you to apply for Hunter as he is actively looking for his new home to settle into :)

Applications for Hunter are open now!
