Animal Care Assistant


We are looking for an enthusiastic and confident person to join our team of animal care assistants.
The ideal candidate would have experience of working in a busy kennel environment
This is a full time position (37.5hrs)
Hours are 8.00am to 4.30pm, working 10 days out of 14 on a rota basis to include weekends.

You will also be required to stay overnight onsite once a week/when required
(overnight allowance paid)

Not scared of getting mucky and can handle dog farts and cat litter smells
There's lots of cleaning to do... and then some more cleaning...

Key responsibilities and tasks include
Working in our busy rescue centre ensuring a high standard
Liaising with customers and their pets
Actively assist and match potential adopters with pets
All aspects of kennel duties - cleaning, enrichment, husbandry etc
Supporting fundraising activities
Coaching/mentoring new staff/work placements

Person Description

Applicants should possess the following:

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Team player
  • Confident communication skills
  • Able to interact with public and ability to deal with people in sometimes emotional /challenging situations
  • HND/HNC level or qualification equivalent ( Relevant Animal care experience and/or qualification equivalent desirable) and confidence in handling dogs and cats
  • Previous experience in a rehoming position an advantage
  • Recognised Qualification in behaviour/training would be a bonus
  • Flexible Reliable and trustworthy
  • Excellent customer service
  • Good IT skills
  • Provide key holder duties in case of sickness/emergency where applicable.
  • Full drivers licence (manual)
    (you will have vet runs, collections or dog park runs to do)
